This past weekend was a very exciting and entertaining. As a SoCal girl, living in Las Vegas for four years now has brought upon different experiences and opportunities. However this past weekend I got to enjoy a great reunion with many of my sorority sisters many of whom became my best friends while I studied at San Diego State. I must admit I was a bit anxious for the weekend to begin and I also wanted to ensure my friends had a great time in this desert paradise. As I picked up one of my best friends, Vero from the airport on Friday I was ecstatic to see what the weekend would bring. As soon as I picked her up it felt as if nothing had changed, we were still roommates and went everywhere together. The next day was when the mayhem ensued. My awesome friend Monique (Whom I call my ladybug) drove from San Diego on Saturday and we immediately began to discuss the recent events in our lives: Love, work, friends, family and of course sex. That night we went out to the “it” club in Las Vegas and had a marvelous time. Dancing and drinking our night away like we use to do in San Diego (we still do that but it was extra special because we were all together again). Reminiscing about our college days and all of the things we did really made me miss San Diego. Most of the girls left on Sunday except for Vero which was awesome because we really got to reconnect and discuss our current lives and what we hope to achieve in our future. I’ve felt a little depressed this week. One thing I told Monique was that Las Vegas was becoming home (It’s not quite there yet) and she responded “Shut up Star I will get you out of here before that happens”. Would moving to San Diego or to California bring upon better opportunities for me? As I contemplate this, I also have to admit that living in Las Vegas has presented me with many great opportunities and amazing people. The heat is unbearable in Las Vegas and the winters are so cold that I get toe cramps more often. However Las Vegas could be my future home, I love working for the International Programs office at UNLV and I do love all of the friends I’ve made here and of course my boyfriend is absolutely wonderful (He’s a Las Vegas native), so Las Vegas does have its charm and it’s not just a weekend paradise. Many people during the past forty years have made it their home and while I resisted at first, it might become my home as well.
